MWM leader gets bail in Numaish violence case
An anti-terrorism court on Thursday granted post-arrest bail to two men, including a Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) leader, in a case pertaining to the Dec 31 violence at Numaish.
The court however dismissed the bail plea of 17 other individuals. Maulana Asghar Shaheedi, along with 18 other people, was arrested after MWM protesters clashed with police that tried to remove their sit-in against the blockade and killings in Parachinar at Numaish on December 31.
The arrested protesters moved an application before the anti-terrorism court seeking post-arrest bail. After hearing both sides, the ATC-II judge granted bail to Shaheedi and Mohammad Abbas against a surety of Rs50,000 each, while denied bail to the rest.
An FIR was lodged at the Soldier Bazaar police station under sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting, armed with deadly weapon), 149 (every member of unlawful assembly guilty of offence committed in prosecution of common object), 152 (assaulting to obstructing public servant when suppressing riot, etc), 324 (attempted murder), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), and 109 (abetment) of the Pakistan Penal Code read with Section 7 (punishment for acts of terrorism) of the Anti-Terrorism Act.
