CDA plans signal-free underpass to ease traffic on Srinagar Highway

Islamabad:The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is planning to launch a new road project aimed at improving traffic flow for vehicles arriving from Murree and entering the Srinagar Highway (formerly Kashmir Highway).

The project involves constructing an underpass at the junction of Murree Road and Srinagar Highway, enabling vehicles to bypass traffic signals and ensure seamless entry onto the highway. This underpass will also connect with the Serena Interchange project, which is expected to be completed in the next couple of months.

CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa, accompanied by Member Engineering and other relevant officials, visited Murree Road to review the proposed linkage with Serena Chowk. During the visit, the team discussed the construction of the underpass as a solution to the pressing traffic issues at the junction of Srinagar Highway and Murree Road.

Chairman Randhawa emphasized that the underpass would greatly benefit commuters traveling from Murree and Kashmir to Islamabad. He directed that the proposed underpass at the Srinagar Highway-Murree Road Junction should be fully integrated with the Serena Chowk Interchange project to enhance connectivity across the city.

During the briefing, officials informed Randhawa that soil testing for the underpass construction is already underway. Additionally, work on the project's feasibility, design, and planning has commenced. The CDA Chairman stressed that completing this underpass would provide a long-term solution to Islamabad's persistent traffic challenges. He instructed the teams involved to expedite the design phase and present the proposal as soon as possible. Once operational, the underpass is expected to make all traffic from Murree to the Srinagar Highway signal-free, ensuring smoother and more efficient travel for commuters.
