ISLAMABAD: The Senate Standing Committee on Federal Education and Professional Training has called for restoration of student unions.
The committee directed the administration of the Federal Urdu University of Arts, Sciences and Technology (FUUAST) to resolve the issues affecting students, workers and retired employees without delay. Committee Chairperson Senator Bushra Anjum Butt expressed concern over delays in the attestation of students' degrees. She stressed that while the Higher Education Commission (HEC) conducted its checks, the attestation process must be initiated promptly.
The committee met on Friday at the Parliament House. Bushra emphasized the need to eliminate the interim vice chancellor position and proposed forming a dedicated committee to develop actionable solutions. She highlighted that proper resource allocation was critical to effectively addressing recurring issues.
Regarding the ban on student unions, Senator Masroor Ahsan called for clear guidelines to govern their operation.
