ISLAMABAD: The Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, Service Chiefs, and the Armed Forces of Pakistan solemnly commemorated the 53rd martyrdom anniversary of Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed, Nishan-e-Haider, a symbol of valour and patriotism.

During the 1971 War, Major Shabbir Sharif, who had previously been awarded the Sitara-e-Jurat for his gallantry in the 1965 War, was tasked with capturing a strategically critical high ground near the Sulemanki Headworks.

On the night of December 5-6, he demonstrated unparalleled bravery by engaging in hand-to-hand combat, killing Major Narain Singh, the company commander of the 4 Jat Regiment.

The following day, December 6, Major Shabbir Sharif heroically repelled multiple enemy counterattacks, personally destroying advancing tanks with a recoilless rifle. Despite successfully capturing and defending the objective against relentless assaults, he embraced martyrdom when struck by an Indian tank shell.

Major Shabbir Sharif Shaheed’s extraordinary courage, steadfast dedication, and ultimate sacrifice embody the highest ideals of patriotism and military excellence.

His heroic legacy remains etched in history as a testament to his unwavering devotion to defending the motherland.
