Cop, polio worker martyred in Bajaur firing

KHAR: A police constable and a polio worker were martyred when unidentified gunmen opened fire on them in Mullah Said Banda in Salarzai tehsil, Bajaur tribal district, on Wednesday.
Local residents said that anti-polio vaccination was going on in the area when unidentified gunmen came there and opened fire on the cops and polio workers. As a result, constable Luqman, 33, and polio worker Abu Huraira, 25, sustained multiple bullet injuries and embraced martyrdom on the spot.
Soon after the incident, the police rushed to the spot and shifted the bodies to District Headquarters Hospital in Khar, the headquarters of Bajaur district.
Police officials said that they had launched a search operation in the area to apprehend the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, funeral prayer for the slain cop was offered at the Police Lines in Civil Colony in Khar, which was attended by civil and military officials and the general public.
Later, the body was taken to his native town for burial.
