Controversial post on ‘X’: Imran again refuses to record statement without lawyers
Reliable FIA sources indicated that the Cyber Crime Circle team will attempt to meet and record Imran Khan’s statement on Friday
ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Founder Imran Khan refused to record his statement regarding the controversial post uploaded from his official X account during a meeting with FIA team on Thursday.
He once again sent the team back, insisting that he would not record any statement without his lawyers present.
Reliable FIA sources indicated that the Cyber Crime Circle team will attempt to meet and record Imran Khan’s statement on Friday, during a jail trial when his legal team will be present, addressing his concern.
According to these sources, the FIA Cyber Crime Circle team, tasked with investigating the matter, reached Adiala Jail on Thursday to record Imran Khan’s statement. However, he reiterated his previous stance, refusing to meet them without his lawyers.
Earlier, on Wednesday, the FIA’s investigative team had summoned party chairman Barrister Gohar Khan, Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan, and Chief Spokesperson Raoof Hasan to record their statements regarding the post. Sources revealed that Barrister Gohar Khan and Raoof Hasan, during their lengthy statements, denied any responsibility for running the party’s social media campaign from the US or other countries, criticising the action as detrimental to the party and stating that it would increase misunderstandings. Both leaders asserted that they had no control over those managing the social media system from the US and that these individuals did not fall under the jurisdiction of Pakistan’s leadership.
Barrister Gohar stated, “I tried hard to convince those handling social media in USA, not to create problems for the party not to add to our issues, but they wouldn’t even listen. They were not willing to listen. Imran Khan has no connection with this post; everything is coming from outside. I was not part of the core committee meeting called in response to the situation resulting from this post; I wasn’t part of the meeting about the post’s fallout and would have stopped the press release if he had been.”
