Threatening messages to ex-minister: KP CTD seeks permission to investigate opposition MPA
EX-minister had received threatening audio messages from an unknown number on his WhatsApp
PESHAWAR: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has sought permission from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to investigate an opposition MPA in a case about threatening messages to a former provincial minister of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in February.
A case was registered by the CTD police station in Peshawar on February 17 under 7ATA, 25 TA and other sections after former provincial minister of PTI Taimur Saleem Jhagra said he had received threatening audio messages from an unknown number on his WhatsApp, asking him to withdraw his cases.
As per the official result of the February 8 general elections, Jalal Khan of the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz defeated Taimur Saleem from PK 79 Peshawar. However, Jhagra and runner-up candidates of PTI from some other constituencies refused to accept the results and challenged them in the court and other relevant forums.
Later Jhagra told the media that he had received threatening audio messages on his WhatsApp number, asking him to withdraw his cases or face consequences. The former finance minister approached the CTD, with a request for independently probing the case. He didn't name anyone in the FIR.
During the probe, the CTD official was instructed to approach the KP Assembly authorities to seek permission to investigate MPA Jalal Khan in the same case for being a rival candidate of the complainant. The MPA rejected allegations leveled against him.
