LAHORE: Former senator and Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Dr Asif Kirmani has denied leaving the party.

In a statement on Sunday, Asif Kirmani said he didn’t need to get a certificate from anyone for being associated with PMLN.

He said he had not applied for the Senate ticket. “I was neither interested in the Senate ticket nor available for this job,” he said.

Dr Kirmani further said he didn’t even contact anyone for the Senate ticket. “Not by accident, I am a born Muslim Leaguer,” he said, adding he would continue to consider Nawaz Sharif as his leader. He advised political “newborns” against spreading misleading information about him. Before breaking the news that Dr Asif Kirmani has left PMLN, this correspondent tried to contact him repeatedly but could not talk to him. However, several senior PMLN leaders, requesting anonymity, confirmed Dr Kirmani had left the party and will not be given any role in the party in future.

This scribe also tried to get an official version from the PMLN leadership. Messages were sent to Ahsan Iqbal, Marriyum Aurangzeb and Atta Tarar but none of them bothered to reply.
