JAMRUD: The Fata Qaumi Jirga here on Saturday staged a protest rally against the merger of ex-Fata with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province.
The protesters were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against the merger.
Addressing the protesters, Fata Qaumi Jirga president Bismillah Khan said that they were against the merger from the beginning as he believed the government had seized the resources of the tribal people under the garb of merger.
He said the tribal people did not want the police and patwar system in their areas. He said the government had not fulfilled the promises made with the tribal people and added that the merger had caused a huge loss to the people.
The protesters demanded the government to reverse the merger and restore the old status of the tribal areas.
