PPP believes Zardari will win presidential election with 400-plus votes
“Asif Ali Zardari will play a role for the charter of economy and reconciliation after his election as the president,”: says Kundi
ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) believes Asif Ali Zardari will be elected as the president of the country again with 400-plus votes, as the ruling coalition has more than required numbers in the electoral college.
“Asif Ali Zardari will play a role for the charter of economy and reconciliation after his election as the president,” said PPP Information Secretary Faisal Karim Kundi and senior party leader Nadeem Afzal Chan while addressing a press conference on Thursday.
Chan, who is head of his party’s coordination committee on Punjab, said there was a formula between the PPP and the PMLN in Punjab for political consultation, not power sharing.
Kundi said the PPP was making front-door contacts with political parties for getting support in the presidential elections, and not through back doors. “Talks are also going on with the MQM and we are waiting for its response,” he said.
About the protest of Maulana Fazlur Rehman for alleged stolen mandate, the PPP secretary information said Maulana’s mandate was stolen in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, but he and his party was protesting in Sindh. “Maulana Fazlur Rehman is sitting with the PTI, instead of protesting against rigging,” he added.
Kundi said KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur did not meet the prime minister on Wednesday, as he’s still the chief minister of tiger force. “KP Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur should sit with the centre and discuss problems of the province,” he suggested. He said threats did not work. “We want Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to develop. There should be coordination between the provincial and central government and they should jointly identify solution to problems,” he added.
About new cabinet formation in KP, Kundi said all relatives of PTI provincial leadership had been included in the cabinet, though they claim they would end hereditary politics.
He said the Sunni Ittehad Council was making hue and cry for no reasons as it did not contest election on any general seat and even their own leader himself contested election as an independent candidate and joined the Sunni Ittehad Council after winning election.
About Zulfikar Ali Bhutto reference, Faisal Kundi said the Supreme Court gave justice to PPP founder chairman after 44 years. He said the party would give detailed reaction once the SC would release its detailed decision on the reference.
