Mayor appreciates municipal staff for ‘tireless work’
“Please keep up the hard work & don’t be bogged down by nay-sayers,” says Murtaza Wahab
Dismissing reports of the absence of municipal staff when the citizens suffered due to downpour on Saturday night, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab appreciated the entire team of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) and Sindh Solid Waste Management Board (SSWMB).
In a post on X, the mayor complimented the KMC, KWSC and SSWMB “for their tireless efforts over the last 20 hours.” He added: “Please keep up the hard work & don’t be bogged down by nay-sayers.”
He said all major thoroughfares had been cleared of rainwater. Stagnant water had been removed from streets of Lyari and factors causing accumulation of water on II Chundrigar Road had been addressed, he added
Crack in canal
Amid heavy rainfall and power breakdown at the Hub Pumping Station, a crack emerged on Sunday in the Hub Canal that supplies water to Karachi.
According to the KWSC spokesperson, the water supply from the Hub Canal to the city had been temporarily suspended due to the crack and KWSC Chief Executive Officer CEO Engineer Sallahuddin Ahmed has issued orders for repair of the canal on an emergency basis.
The spokesman said the repair work would be completed in the next 72 hours. Due to the crack, water supply from the Hub Canal would be temporarily suspended in West and Keamari districts where water would be supplied from the alternative line of K-III. The KWSC has appealed to the citizens to store water and use it carefully.
KE’s statement
Meanwhile, the K-Electric (KE) said power supply to the Karachi and adjoining areas had been normalised following Saturday's unexpected heavy showers. It added that its field teams were active in addressing localised faults.
The power utility said that as per emergency safety protocols, power supply to low-lying areas or those with a high prevalence of kundas was temporarily suspended and they were gradually energised once weather conditions became normal.
