Parties, candidates warned of action over violation of code of conduct in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Joint Sindh Election Commissioner Admin and Provincial Monitoring Coordinator Ali Asghar Syal has said action will be taken against those who violate the code of conduct issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan for the General Election 2024

He was presiding over a meeting regarding the code of conduct with the monitoring officers of the districts of the Hyderabad Division at the Shehbaz Hall here on Monday Syal said strict action would be taken against any government employee participating in political programmes or supporting political parties. He also directed the candidates to inform their supporters about the code of conduct to ensure proper implementation of the code issued for the general elections so as to ensure a level playing field for the political parties and candidates before the elections.

He asked the political parties and independent candidates to avoid displaying banners on government buildings; otherwise, strict action would be taken by the Election Commission. Hyderabad Regional Election Commissioner Azhar Tanwari, Additional Commissioner One Ahsan Qureshi, Assistant Commissioner Hasnain Raza, and other officers were also present in the meeting.

District Monitoring Election Officer Hyderabad Ahsan Ali Qureshi told The News that in the city, Latifabad and Qasimabad tehsils, billboards, banners and pamphlets exceeding the prescribed size and placed on any government building or electricity poles had been removed indiscriminately. He said that earlier banners, pamphlets, and billboards had been taken down, but now notices and fines would also be issued to those who violated the code of conduct.
