Importance of promoting Pakistan’s art & culture at home and abroad underscored

The Nigaah Art Awards 2024 ceremony took place in the historical cultural heritage venue of the Mohatta Palace in Karachi, showcasing artistic creations of various painters and sculptors from across Pakistan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Muhammad Ahmed Shah, the caretaker provincial minister for information, minority affairs, social protection, and president of the Arts Council, expressed his pleasure at being part of the colourful event. He expressed gratitude to the organizers and emphasized the need to extend such displays to other cities in Pakistan to promote the work of artists nationwide.

During his address, Shah acknowledged the support of a private bank in collaborating for the Nigaah Art Awards event. He thanked the corporate sector for contributing to the promotion and advancement of art and culture. He stressed that artists not only contribute as excellent creators but also serve as ambassadors of art globally.

He highlighted the importance of promoting Pakistan’s art and culture not only within the country but also internationally. He acknowledged the role of artists in showcasing the beauty of Pakistan and commended their efforts for elevating the country’s cultural identity.

Expressing gratitude to the bank for its support, he underscored the significance of corporate collaboration in fostering the growth of art and culture. Shah emphasized that the event aimed not only to showcase art but also to remove barriers for artists and provide support for their continued success.

In a session with Nasira Zubairi, the information minister emphasized the need for serious individuals to come together and collaborate. He highlighted the success of the Arts Council’s students, whose artwork is being displayed internationally through an art exchange programme in Dubai, bringing financial benefits to the artists.

He dismissed any notion of animosity towards wealthy individuals, stating that art is not about financial control. He shared his experience of bringing students from Model Town, Lyari, and Liaquatabad to the forefront of Pakistan’s artistic scene.

He recounted the establishment of theater festivals, literary events, and youth festivals in Karachi, with the Urdu Conference now gaining global recognition. Shah praised the contributions of poets and writers like Gul Jee, Anwar Maqsood, Zahra Nigah, Amr Jalil, Ibrahim Joyo, and Anwar Shaoor.

He acknowledged the valuable services of Rabia Zubairi and Aqeel Bilgrami, emphasizing that art is a powerful tool for cultural transformation. He emphasized that change can be brought about through culture and that the experience in literary and artistic fields continues to evolve.

In conclusion, he expressed that art provides a sturdy instrument for change and encouraged the youth to pursue their own thoughts and ideas, acknowledging that they cannot be restrained.

The minister purchased four paintings created by various artists during the Nigaah Art Awards 2024. Renowned poet Anwar Shaoor recited his poetry at the ceremony, receiving warm appreciation from the attendees.
