Dar plays vital role in writing letter to Supreme Court
ISLAMABAD: Finance Minister Ishaq Dar played a vital role in writing a letter to the Supreme Court. He convinced the PM that the government can only steer out of this crisis by writing letter to the Supreme Court.
He apprised the prime minister of the talks held with the Opposition Leader Khursheed Shah adding that he also had the same view. Sources at the PM House told The News that at first the government was not willing to write letter to the Supreme Court because the legal aides of the PM opined that the Supreme Court would reject request of the government due the overburden of the daily cases.
However Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and other close associates convinced the prime minister to deliver the speech for second time because they were of the opinion that in this way Imran Khan would lose the moral ground to stage sit-in against the government on this petty issue of Panama Papers.
Sources told The News that on the directions of the prime minister the commission has been given vast powers. The government has given same terms of references which they were going to use in their own inquiry commission, so that credibility of the commission could never be questioned and the judicial commission could dig out the matter by using its vast powers. Sources said that it was first time that an elected democratic government had given such unlimited powers to a commission to unearth the truth.
