MQM-PMLN electoral alliance will not produce any positive results: Sharjeel
Former Sindh information minister stated this while speaking at press conference here at media cell of Bilawal House
KARACHI: Former Sindh information minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has said the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has serious objections to the newly-published final delimitation of constituencies for conducting the general elections. The PPP is going to adopt constitutional recourse to get the issue resolved, he said.
The former Sindh information minister stated this on Sunday while speaking at a press conference here at the media cell of Bilawal House. The PPP senior leader spoke on this issue in the backdrop of a recent outburst by leaders of Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P), who were of the view that the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had adopted the fresh delimitation in the province just to favour the PPP in coming elections. They said by doing so, the ECP’s impartial status had been seriously damaged.
Answering another question, Sharjeel said the electoral alliance to be formed between MQM and PMLN wouldn’t produce any positive results for both parties. He said the anti-PPP political forces in the province would again be defeated in the upcoming general elections as had happened in the past polls.
While responding to a question, Sharjeel Memon said the MQM Pakistan wanted the delimitation of constituencies should be carried out in the province as per its desire. “In such a case, MQM should directly form the next government instead of contesting polls,” he said.
Memon, who also held the Transport Department portfolio in the previous government, demanded that the caretaker Sindh government should release 40 newly-imported buses of Peoples Bus Service stuck at the Karachi Port.
He said the previous PPP Sindh government had launched the Peoples Bus Service for the people of Karachi to modernise the public transport services in the city. He claimed the modern public healthcare facilities built by the previous PPP government in Karachi had been missing elsewhere in the country.
Memon further claimed that sick persons, even from Iran and Afghanistan, had been availing the services of these modern public hospitals in Karachi. He said the PMLN’s past governments had failed to build a matching modern public healthcare facility upcountry.
He told media persons the PPP’s leadership didn’t have to go abroad to get health services as the public health facilities in the province were sufficient for their treatment. The construction of modern healthcare facilities should get preference by the government over building road infrastructure and motorways in the country.
He informed media persons that PPP’s past governments had been credited with the extraction of Thar coal for power generation, giving the vision for CPEC, and building missile systems for defence of Pakistan.
He said the PPP possessed the means to win the upcoming elections and didn’t need to use the backdoor for coming into power after rigging.
Memon claimed the PPP, based on support of masses in Pakistan, would emerge as the single largest party in the country as a result of the upcoming February 8 general polls.
He urged all the concerned national institutions and political parties to put aside their mutual differences, forge unity and sit together for nation-building.
