Awareness seminar on ‘antimicrobial resistance’
LAHORE:Punjab University Institute of Microbiology and Molecular Genetics (IMMG) conducted a seminar 'Tackling AMR: The fight against infection and sepsis' here on Friday.
The seminar's goal was to raise awareness of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and to suggest creative technological solutions for it. On this occasion, PU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Director Institute of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics Prof Dr Anjum Nasim Sabri, faculty members and students were present.
In his address, Dr Khalid Mahmood said that these sorts of awareness seminars were the need of the day. He said that all faculty members and the research scholars should focus on the issues related to society and have a bag full of applied research that could help and resolve the society’s major issues of health.
Practicum manual
Provincial Health Minister Dr Javed Akram has said that social work education should not be limited to obtaining a degree but should be practically meant for human service. He was addressing the launching ceremony of first-ever ‘Social Work Field Practicum Manual’ by Punjab University Department of Social Work at Al Raazi Hall on Friday.
On this occasion, PU VC Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood, Department of Social Work Chairperson Dr Uzma Ashiq, Social Welfare Director General Mudassar Riaz Malik, Secretary Social Welfare Zahoor Hussain, Registrar Dr Ahmed Islam, faculty members and students were present.
In his address, Dr Javed Akram said that our religion emphasised social service. He said that we have to make people’s thinking and attitudes positive through education, for which students can play an active role. He said that social service sectors in Pakistan have to work together for social development.
Dr Khalid Mahmood said that the social problems due to urbanisation in the modern era could be solved only through humanitarian service. He said that the students of the social work department could resolve social issues through their hard work. He said that the introduced field work would be beneficial for the students. Dr Uzma Ashiq said that Punjab University Social Work Department would continue to play a positive role in the betterment of the society. She said that in a few months, the department has taken many steps for expanding the job market of students, academic development, infrastructure improvement and strong relations with other institutions.
