Court grants one-day physical remand of Fawad in fraud case
ISLAMABAD: The Civil Judge, Islamabad, Yasir Mehmood, on Tuesday approved a one-day physical remand of former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry in a fraud case.
Faisal Chaudhry, Qamar Inayat and Ali Bukhari were representing the former PTI leader. His wife Hiba Fawad, brother Faraz Chaudhry and some family members were present in the court where Fawad was to be produced by SHO Aabpara Police Station after completion of the 2-day physical remand. Faisal Chaudhry told the judge that hearing was to be held at 11:00 am but Fawad hadn’t been produced in the court. The judge ordered court staff to inquire from SHO Aabpara Police Station and adjourned the hearing till 12:00 pm. The former federal minister was brought to the court handcuffed and face covered at around 12:30pm.
Ali Bukhari started the arguments, saying a blind case had been made against Fawad. “Have the complainant done any agreement with Fawad?”
Faisal Chaudhry argued that they’ve brought him again with his face covered. “Can you please order them to remove his handcuffs.” He further added that Fawad was supposed to be presented at 11 am but they brought him here at 12:30 pm. The prosecution is humiliating Fawad, he said.
Prosecutor Adnan Ali asked the court to extend the physical remand of accused for five more days since he’s not cooperating in the investigation. Adnan said, “We have to recover Rs5 million from him, we also need to recover a gun from him and also need to do his identity parade. Complainant gave Fawad Rs5 million for safekeeping and when he asked him to return, he told him that he’ll give his family jobs and eventually as a federal minister threatened him through his gunmen.”
Judge Yasir Mehmood, after listening the arguments, reserved the judgment for almost one hour.
The judgment approved 1-day physical remand of accused for the purpose of investigation and elucidation of evidence subject to pre and post medical of the accused with the direction to IO to make material progress.
The court also wrote in the order that no further physical remand will be granted after tomorrow. The police have also been ordered to produce Fawad in the court on Wednesday (today).
