Two meter-readers conniving with power thieves suspended
LAHORE: Lahore Electricity Supply Company (Lesco) has suspended two meter-readers on the charges of neglecting their duties in Kot Abdul Malik Sub-Division.
The Lesco spokesman told media here Wednesday that both the officials were conniving in the electricity theft while neglecting their duties. As part of its ongoing anti-power theft campaign under the supervision of Lesco CEO Engineer Shahid Haider, an inspection team of the company detected two fake power meters in Tayyaba Colony, he said and added that both the meters were purchased from the market. After detecting facilitation to electricity thieves, the company suspended the relevant meter reader and initiated departmental inquiry against him.
In the same colony, the inspection also found another power meter that was reversed to cheat the Lesco. The company also suspended the meter reader concerned and started departmental action against him.
Meanwhile, another inspection team conducted a search operation in the Burj Attari area and checked 105 connections out of which four connections were found to be stealing power from the direct supply of Lesco. All four connections were severed and cases registered against the accused while four accused were arrested by the area police.
Lesco management, Workers Union hold joint meeting
Lesco CEO Engineer Shahid Haider said that employees ensuring safe electricity supply and best facilities to consumers are the real asset to the company. He was chairing a Joint Works Council meeting here at Lesco Headquarters. The office-bearers of Lesco Workers Union, senior leader Khurshid Ahmed Khan, Director (HR) Azia Shoaib, CFO Bushra Imran and other officers concerned attended the meeting.
The CEO Engineer Shahid Haider said that all the SOPs regarding safety during work in Lesco should be implemented; otherwise, strict disciplinary action would be taken against those showing negligence in this regard. He said, ‘Success of this institution is the success of all of us and we have to work together for its success.’
On this occasion, senior unionist Khurshid Ahmed demanded recruitment of new line staff, concrete measures to prevent accidents during line/field work, provision of safe and quality T&P for line staff, up-gradation of staff and doubling of off-day wages as well as its early payment, construction of canteen and motorcycle stand at Lesco headquarters, provision of mobiles to meter readers and increasing the quota for diploma holders from 10 to 20 percent. Lesco chief assured the office-bearers of fulfilling the demands.
