Hi Ed,

I read the article by FD Sheikh ‘It is not only about Mental Intelligence (IQ)’ in the issue of February 5, and really appreciate the thoughts of the writer as he not only touched this topic and approached it very thoroughly, but also highlighted one important issue of the subcontinent.

In our society, success is measured by marks and social standing rather than the ethics and behaviour of a person, and this is evident in all walks of life predominantly.

As a professional and one of the high achievers and outlier in my field, I have seen there are limits, and only IQ cannot land you to your desired position or get you your desired results; your understanding of emotions also plays a role in your life, your relationships, your attitude … in fact, your entire lifestyle is more or less dictated by your emotional intelligence.

I would say that the article gives deep insight into the issue which is often taken for granted and it is time we should start emphasizing on right issues and be vocal on that for the betterment of our future generation.

Dear Editor,

Assalam-o-alaikum,

I was deeply touched by the story penned by Ms. Maleeha Durrani, “ Girls will never be good enough”, carried in Today’s issue of Us (February 19). Sadly, a true representation of the distinction with which offspring are treated by unwise parents. The male-child’s waywardness or rather brazenness and belligerence is up for appreciation and the female-child is closeted, in perceived norms of expected behaviour; she is to remain muted, muzzled and pulverised.

Hey Ed,

‘Processing the world at both ends’ by Ahmad Hassan Nadeem was a very informative article, and just the stuff that is of interest to people my age who are university students. I also love ‘Comic Relief’ and miss ‘The Green Room’. The variety of articles never ceases to amaze me, and I cannot help appreciating the talent of our young writers. I also liked the cover story ‘Girls will never be good enough’ by Maleeha Durrani. All in all, a very good issue after a long time.

Hello Editor,

In the edition of February 5, on the back cover I loved the picture of the Flag Staff House, which is also known as The Quaid-e-Azam House. It’s a beautiful building and museum and worth visiting. Pakistan has a wealth of architecture which should be explored by our young people. Hope to see more such pictures in the future.

Reflection

Narrated Abu Huraira (R.A):

Allah’s Apostle (S.A.W) finished his prayer after offerings two Rakat only. Dhul-Yaddain (R.A) asked him whether the prayer had been reduced, or you had forgotten?” The Prophet said, “Is Dhul-Yaddain speaking the truth?” The people said, “Yes.” Then Allah’s Apostle stood up and performed another two rakat and then finished prayer with Taslim, and then said the takbir and performed a prostration similar to or longer than his ordinary prostrations; then he raised his head, said Takbir and prostrated and then raised his head (Sahu prostrations).
