When a band breaks up, it’s usually a sad affair. But every now and then, a break up can prove to be a good thing. Case in point: Farhan Saeed.

For years, Farhan remained a faithful member of Jal, the popular pop music act from Lahore (that previously featured Atif Aslam for a brief period) and sang many a-hit songs like ‘Teri Yaad’, ‘Sajni’, ‘Ik Din Aayega’. In 2011, Jal made its Coke Studio debut and soon after, Farhan split up from the group, which is now spearheaded by Goher Mumtaz.

In retrospect, Farhan’s decision to quit the band turned out to be the right call. He is now more visible and popular than ever before. Farhan’s Facebook fans have reached the 2 million mark and that’s just the tip of the iceberg. Having scored countless hits since going solo, having Shah Rukh Khan as a fan and walking the ramp at Telenor Bridal Couture Week (TBCW) with Urwa Hocane, Farhan’s rising star power is becoming palpable. And the singer-songwriter is now gearing up for an acting career. Like many of his contemporaries, Farhan, too is juggling multiple projects, both in music and television. “The teaser for one of my serials is on-air,” Farhan tells Instep in a telephonic conversation. Currently in Karachi and shooting non-stop, Farhan, is however, not in a mood to bid music goodbye anytime soon.

“I’m doing a TV musical,” the singer-turned-actor revealed to Instep. The musical is slated to release later this year and will feature at least half a dozen songs while exploring the singer’s romantic side.

For Farhan, acting was a challenge at first. “Initially, I didn’t know how to approach it, or what to do exactly but as the days went by I progressed and learned to how to go about an acting project,” says the pop singer, and adds, “I’m enjoying a good balance between acting and singing.”

Meanwhile Farhan’s musical projects are rolling in between.

In fact, Farhan flew to India recently for a show in Delhi, India. “I usually don’t perform in Ramzan but I was committed to the show for a while. Delhi has a great live music scene,” he tells Instep.

Like many of his music contemporaries, Farhan, too, is open to Bollywood. He’s already in talks with Indian filmmaker Mohit Suri. “One of my songs, which is originally in Punjabi, is up for a film. We’re changing the lyrics so it appeals to everyone.”
