Janat Sohail Aziz, who plays music under the moniker of Wooly and the Uke, recently released a new single called ‘Watch’; in addition to singing/composing the song and being the artist behind the artwork, she also directed the music video.

“It has been shot on a phone and exchanged over a period of time, while travelling in many different places – it felt like the rawest emotion we could put forward,” said Wooly and the Uke in a post.

Speaking to Instep later, she recounted her conversation with Poor Rich Boy’s Zain Ahsan and how the song, ‘Watch’ became a collaboration between Wooly and the Uke and Poor Rich Boy.

“I wrote it on a ukulele, because I’m very limited to it, being away, and predominantly due to an inability to express through other instruments - this does not mean it should be restricted to it. It’s supposed to be a chaotic song, so it can be anything and everything you understand better to fit.”

She reiterated, “I don’t know why but I have always had an urge to have a choir emphasize certain points - being a person who gets overwhelmed with collective voices, as are in one’s head as well, I find choirs to be very intimidating - like they’re pushing the emotion in you, with big power, and can almost push the point enough to encompass you within the emotion. I’m no producer, not even close, it’s just some suggestions,” she said, before adding, “I am sure someone like you (Zain Ahsan) would definitely understand far better than what I could.”

The result is an oscillating part retro, part indie track with the most beautiful of lyrics.
