Contemporary qawwali group Hamza Akram Qawwal and Brothers - who have a Lux Style Award in the Best Emerging Category (Music) to their credit - are back in the spotlight with a beautiful track called ‘Kesa Ishq‘. There is a very simple truth to the song: love in all its purity and how it is transcendent, and that simplicity, that message, shines in this qawwali production. It is appealing upon first listen.

The song features all three brothers including Hamza, Taimoor and Abdul Akram with the music video shot in New York by director Asim Farooki.

According to a press statement, the poetry featured in the song is by Tauqeer Bhinder and is about the “power of ‘ishq’ (love) that transcends all differences existent to humankind, including those of cast, creed, and culture.”

With the music produced by DJ Ali Mustafa and backed by a music video in which – apart from Hamza Akram and Brothers - American model Whitney Grandell is also featured, this song is bound to appeal to contemporary music listeners and qawwali fans, which is so difficult to do.

The group belongs to a family of musicians and according to the press statement are “descendants of the first Qawwal of the subcontinent, Mian Samaat Bin Ibrahim”.

Among their other achievements is composing music for the film, Rangreza and landing on BBC Asian Network’s Top 100 Music Chart, several international performances and gorgeous collaborations with Karachi-based company Salt Arts.
