Rahat Fateh Ali Khan hosts exclusive performance for charity

Barnardo’s Global Ambassador Rahat Fateh Ali Khan has celebrated his honorary doctorate from the University of Oxford with children and young people at the Oxford Town Hall.

According to a press release, the renowned Qawwali and Bollywood singer, who was awarded the honorary doctorate for his outstanding contribution to the arts, invited children, young people and their families to a sound check ahead of his sold out concert on Thursday.

The children and young people, who are supported by Barnardo’s services in Oxford, also had the opportunity to meet the singer, ask him questions and share their own personal stories.

Barnardo’s Global Ambassador, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, said: “It’s always a pleasure to support Barnardo’s. Receiving an honorary doctorate is a huge honour and meeting these amazing young people really added to the specialness of the day.”

Barnardo’s Chief Executive, Javed Khan said: “We are extremely grateful to Rahat Fateh Ali Khan for putting on this special event which the children and young people will remember forever. At Barnardo’s, we’re always looking for ways to enrich children’s lives — especially as they often face serious challenges - and we really appreciate Rahat’s support to achieve this.”

Lily, 5, from the Barnardo’s Star Breaks service, said: “I liked the music. The rhythm was great and I loved the sparkling lights in the Town Hall.”
