Supreme Court puts all-out ban on Indian content on TV channels

The United Producers Association – the fraternity of television professionals – had been pushing for banning Indian content on local TV channels for some time. The idea is to promote local, original content and make it preferable over Indian and other foreign content running on our TV screens. To achieve the purpose, the United Producers Association (UPA) had filed a petition against the telecast of foreign content.

As per recent development, Supreme Court, after hearing their petition at the Karachi Registry on Saturday, has ordered complete ban on Indian content on all Pakistani channels with immediate effect.

“Our dams are being shut, why shouldn’t we ban their channels?” asserted the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Multiple leading local channels promote foreign content including popular Indian and Turkish soaps that are in a way replacing local content on prime time. This hinders the growth of local TV artists – actors, directors, writers – who strive to make a mark in TV as prominent slots are given to foreign content on some local channels.
