Salman Khan’s next, Bharat, for which he began shooting in Mumbai earlier this week, will see Priyanka Chopra as his leading lady, according to latest reports. The film is being directed by Ali Abbas Zafar and is “a journey of a man and a nation together,” as the he puts it.

An adaptation of South Korean film Ode to My Father (2014), Bharat marks Priyanka’s Bollywood comeback after a small hiatus.

Speaking about joining the film’s cast, Priyanka said in a press statement, “Bharat it is! I’m looking forward to begin shooting this film and working with Salman and Ali again after a considerable time. I’ve learnt a lot from them in our previous collaborations and I’m excited to see what this one has to offer. To all my well-wishers, who’ve been so patient and supportive, thank you for your constant support and I’ll see you all at the movies.”

According to reports, the film is a love story and will showcase India’s seven-decade post-independence story. “Bharat is rooted in India and its culture spans over seven decades and travels across the world,” Ali Abbas Zafar confirmed. “Priyanka is the biggest Indian artist globally today and a perfect fit for the film as she brings to the table her incredible talent and international appeal.”

Scheduled to release on Eid 2019, the film marks Salman and Priyanka’s reunion on the big screen after God Tussi Great Ho in which the two appeared together 10 years back.
