What started off as an innocent request has catapulted into an entire movement by rapper Nicki Minaj. It all began when one of her followers tweeted at Minaj, asking her if she would help pay his college tuition.
“Show me straight A’s that I can verify with your school and I’ll pay it. Who wants to join THAT contest?!?! Dead serious. Should I set it up?” she tweeted in response to the queries.
While not all of us expected Minaj to actually go through with her offer, the rapper has surprised everyone by holding up her end of the bargain. She posted a picture on Instagram of all the students she has helped so far.
Devonte Portis, a student at Ohio University is one of the lucky students who have received financial aid from the rapper. “So coincidental! A blessing,” Portis told CNN. “She has since then paid our debts off. It took less than a week to get it all taken care of and I’m registered to go back this summer.”
The rapper’s instagram post shows that she has paid over $18,000 to at least eight different students who needed financial help to repay their loans, pay their tuition and buy books.
