Even though the film didn’t do exceptionally well at the box office, it has received immense critical acclaim and has been a prominent feature on the festival circuit. And achievements seem to continue this following year. The film, which won two awards, for Best Sound and Editing and Best Actor, at the 18th Jaipur International Film Festival, has bagged another award at the recently held London Asian Film Festival.
Director-actor Sarmad Khoosat, who played the titular role with the utmost integrity and panache, has won special recognition for his acting at the closing gala event of the London Asian Film Festival, held last Sunday. While he wasn’t present at the event to receive his award, this should definitely give the talented director/actor another reason to celebrate.
Manto was screened at the festival on March 5th at the Regent Street Cinema alongside Jami’s equally hard-hitting film Moor. Khoosat, who proved that he is a man of many talents through his engaging and intense depiction of the character, is all set for his next venture – an epic drama Mor Mahal, starring Meesha Shafi, Umair Jaswal and Sania Saeed among others, scheduled to air soon.
