Pakistan is one of Uber's fastest growing markets: CEO Khosrowshahi
Dara Khosrowshahi has termed Pakistan as emerged as one of his company's fastest-growing markets bringing in incredible opportunities.
Dara Khosrowshahi, CEO of leading car-hailing app Uber, penned a letter to his staff after his company acquired its Middle East rival Careem for a whopping $3.1 billion on Monday.
Khosrowshahi in his email termed Pakistan as one of the company's fastest-growing markets bringing in incredible opportunities.
"...Now Pakistan is one of our fastest-growing markets in the world, women are driving with Uber across Saudi Arabia, and we chose Cairo to launch our first Uber Bus product late last year," he said.
Announcing the company's partnership with Careem, Khusrowshahi added, "In a few minutes, we'll announce that we've agreed to acquire Careem. Importantly, we intend to operate Careem independently, under the leadership of co-founder and current CEO Mudassir Sheikha. I've gotten to know both co-founders, Mudassir and Magnus Olsson, and what they have built is truly extraordinary."
He further went on to state that the fact that Careem will still be operating independently will serve to be in the best interests by allowing to 'build new products and try new ideas across not one, but two, strong brands, with strong operators within each. '
Khusrowshahi then added that Uber and Careem together will be expediting the 'already remarkable pace of innovation in the region.'
