MOSCOW: Russia´s president Vladimir Putin met with his embattled Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad in the Russian Black Sea resort of Sochi, the Kremlin said in a statement on Tuesday.
"On the 20th of November talks took place between the president of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin and the president of the Syrian Arab Republic Bashar al-Assad, who was in Russia on a working visit," the statement said.
After the meeting Putin said he will talk to US counterpart Donald Trump on the telephone on Tuesday .
"On the basis of our meeting today, I will hold consultations with the leaders of the countries that I already spoke about.
There is already a planned talk with the Emir of Qatar today and tomorrow (another one) with the president of the United States Donald Trump," Putin told Assad on Monday.
