Android Auto's Razr calling bug just got worse with Gemini

A bug in Android Auto is preventing users from making outgoing calls while their Motorola Razr is closed, undermining one of the main practical benefits of owning a foldable phone. Both Google and Motorola are aware of the problem, based on threads across their respective support forums.

According to reports on Motorola's and Google's forums, spotted by Android Authority, attempting to place an outgoing call from a closed Razr connected to Android Auto triggers an error message instructing the user to open the phone.

Once opened, calls go through normally. The issue defeats much of the point of a foldable's outer display, which is designed specifically to handle quick tasks like calls without requiring the phone to be unfolded.

The reported bugs were related to the Motorola Razr paired with Android Auto, and they covered different models, such as the Motorola Razr Ultra 2025 and the Razr Ultra 2026. In addition, it should be noted that keeping a foldable phone open with an exposed screen during driving contradicts the recommendations made by Samsung and Motorola regarding the maintenance of their foldable phones.

It turned out that going back from Gemini to Google Assistant helped fix the problem of calling. Unfortunately, it was impossible to do it anymore, as Google has completely removed Google Assistant from Android.
