Prince Harry, Meghan Markle plot legal move over King Charles' letter: Sources

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are gearing up for a legal battle.

According to the latest reports, the couple is considering challenging King Charles's statement regarding their status as "private citizens."

On Sunday, an insider spilled to RadarOnline.com that the Sussexes have issues with the wording of a letter authorized by Charles.

"Harry and Meghan are not prepared simply to accept being characterized as 'private citizens' when the reality of their lives is considerably more complicated. They are internationally recognized people who undertake public charitable work, have patronages and attract substantial media attention wherever they go," a source close to the Sussexes claimed.

The confidant further said, "Their concern is that the King's wording could establish a misleading description of their status that is then repeated by government departments and other official organizations, which they feel could be especially legally damaging in the context of their bids for increased security in Britain."

"The point they are examining is whether describing them in official correspondence as effectively private citizens accurately reflects their position as public figures," he continued. 

"If they conclude that the language has consequences beyond Palace protocol, they will consider what avenues are available to challenge or clarify it, whether that will be a legal fight or a public statement," a tipster added.

It is worth noting here that King Charles recently issued a letter clarifying that Harry and Meghan remain "non-working royals."

"Following the decision by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to relocate to the UK, we have received a number of requests for guidance," the latter read. "To help avoid doubt or confusion, the King has directed that the following information be shared."

"In January 2020, the Duke and Duchess stepped down from undertaking representative duties on behalf of the sovereign, and are no longer working members of the Royal Family," it added.
