3 Samsung AR apps to be shut down by 2027
AR Doodle and Quick Measure end December 2026; Deco Pic survives one year longer
Samsung is winding down two of its augmented reality apps on December 31, 2026, but a related notice reveals a third app on the same chopping block, just with more runway.
Deco Pic, part of the same AR family as AR Doodle and Quick Measure, isn't due to lose support until December 31, 2027, according to an official Samsung Members service notice.
AR Doodle lets users draw in the air using their phone's camera, with drawings that stay pinned to faces or objects as they move. Quick Measure uses AR and a 3D depth camera to estimate the length or distance of physical objects on the spot; no tape measure is required.
Both stop receiving downloads and updates on December 31, 2026, though Samsung says apps already installed on a device will keep working past that date, just without guaranteed compatibility going forward.
AR Doodle, Quick Measure, and Deco Pic were all initially available together as a pack under one app known as AR Zone that was pre-installed on Galaxy phones beginning with the S20 in 2020.
This was, however, not the case in 2025, when Samsung split AR Zone’s applications into individual standalone downloadable apps through the Galaxy Store platform.
The company has not provided any reason for the discontinuation of the apps. The move coincides with the general marketing trend in the technology world where augmented reality is not the hype anymore.
AR still exists inside Samsung's software, just folded into features rather than promoted as its own category, echoing what happened to "metaverse" and "blockchain" branding once AI became the dominant pitch.
