Building a spreadsheet is one skill; making it presentable is another entirely. Microsoft's answer is a new Copilot-powered feature called "Excel Canvas", which converts workbook data into a polished, interactive view of charts, metrics, and key insights without the manual formatting work that usually comes with it.

Copilot in Excel already helps users build PivotTables, spot trends, and generate charts from a prompt. Canvas goes a step further by pulling those pieces together into a single dashboard-style view that updates itself.

According to Microsoft's own roadmap listing, the canvas automatically refreshes as workbook data changes, and users can revise it further just by chatting with Copilot rather than manually rebuilding charts.

The feature appears on Microsoft's AI at Work Roadmap under ID 569424, currently marked "In development". Microsoft's listing describes it as available across both the Current Channel and General Availability tracks, targeting Excel on desktop and the web.

This is among the Copilot features which Microsoft is rolling out on Excel recently, coming after a “theme design” capability that applies colour schemes to the raw data and another “change history” skill that monitors how the document is evolving with time.

According to the Microsoft roadmap, there is a general availability window for September 2026; however, considering the “in development” status of the feature, it is important to note that this is not yet final.

At this stage in the roadmap, the entry reflects a goal rather than a finalised release, and availability might depend on other factors, including subscriptions and geographic location.
