Yomif Kejelcha shatters half marathon world record in Buenos Aires

Ethiopia’s Yomif Kejelcha regained the world half marathon record after clocking an astonishing 56:51 at the Media Marathon Ciudad de Buenos Aires in the Argentina capital on Sunday.

The 29-year-old took 29 seconds off the World record of 57:20 set by Uganda’s Jacob Kiplimo in Lisbon in March to gain the highest achievement in Valencia in October 2024 with a 57:30 clocking.

On social platform X, fans have been praising one user writing, “I've never managed to get the runner's high during a run. I would only ever get the sensation after I was finished with the run. So, in order to more consistently reap the mental health benefits of running, I've ceased running entirely.”

Second remarked, “Greatest Long-distance runner in history.”

Kiplimo clocked 56:42 in Barcelona last year but it could not be proved as a world record because the race conditions were not in full compliance with World Athletics rules. In addition, the women’s race in Buenos Aires was won by Ethiopia’s Fotyen Tesfay who claimed victory with a 1:03:57 remarkable performance.
