Google Play Store tests new ‘Expand Everything’ feature

Google is quietly testing a new way to browse the Play Store, and it starts with how search results look. The company has begun rolling out "Expand everything", the first experimental feature under a new section called Play Labs, to a limited number of users.

Play Store search results normally show a small downward arrow beside each app's name. Tapping it reveals extra details, such as screenshots, ratings breakdowns or a brief description, without leaving the results page.

With Expand Everything switched on, that expanded view becomes the default for every result, and the arrow instead lets users collapse listings they don't need to see in full.

The change was first spotted in screenshots shared by Telegram user @sameera_s_w, days after Android Authority reported Google was building a Play Labs section into the app. At the time, the feature wasn't functional. It now appears to be live for at least some accounts.

Expanding every listing by default means users see richer information without extra taps, but it also eats up more screen space. That pushes fewer apps into view at once, so anyone scrolling through a long list of search results will need to scroll further to compare options.

Because the feature sits in an experimental Labs menu, it's optional. Users can tap their profile picture inside the Play Store, open the "Play Labs" option, and toggle Expand Everything on or off depending on preference.

Google has not confirmed how many users currently have access, and the feature does not yet appear widely available.
