London's Princess Diana playground reopens

Princess Diana memorial playground is set to reopen on Wednesday 5, August after it underwent a £3million renovation.

According to GB News, The Diana, Princess of Wales Playground in Kensington Gardens’ renovation was funded by The Royal Parks charity.

The memorial named after Prince William and Prince Harry’s mother has been one of Britain's most popular playgrounds, drawing more than a million visits annually.

After over two decades of use, much of the equipment, including the iconic sailing ship, had deteriorated beyond repair, prompting a complete overhaul.

Princess Diana was killed on August 31, 1997, when the limousine carrying her and her lover Dodi al-Fayed crashed in the Pont de L’Alma tunnel in Paris as it sped away from chasing paparazzi photographers on motorbikes.

Her death plunged the British monarchy into crisis, coming after the highly public disintegration of her marriage to Charles with its revelations of feuding, adultery, and the misery she had felt in her royal role.

Princes William and Prince Harr have spoken of the trauma her death caused, and how it affected their mental health for years afterwards.

They were just 15 and 12 when they walked slowly behind their mother's coffin, past a throng of mourners, through the streets of London to her funeral.
