Deebo Samuel signs one-year contract to return to 49ers
Deebo Samuel returns to the 49ers after spending the 2025 season with the Washington Commanders
The San Francisco 49ers have agreed to bring back wide receiver Deebo Samuel on a one-year contract worth up to $7 million.
NFL Network reported that the move comes as the 49ers deal with injury concerns at wide receiver, particularly over Ricky Pearsall, who is recovering from a right knee injury.
The club said this week that Pearsall has swelling in the posterior cruciate ligament of his right knee and acknowledged it has some "concern" about his condition while exploring "all options" for treatment.
Veteran receiver Christian Kirk has also missed recent training camp sessions with a strained calf, leaving San Francisco short of experienced options.
Samuel returns to the 49ers after spending the 2025 season with the Washington Commanders, where he recorded 72 receptions for 727 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games.
THe 49ers originally selected Samuel in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft, and he spent six seasons with the club before being traded to Washington.
During his first spell in San Francisco, Samuel established himself as one of the NFL's most versatile offensive players.
His standout 2021 campaign saw him produce 1,770 combined rushing and receiving yards with 12 touchdowns, earning Pro Bowl and first-team All-Pro honours.
