Tech billionaire Elon Musk has issued one of his most optimistic projections regarding artificial intelligence, forecasting that it will surpass all human intelligence by 2031.

In an interview with The Economist's Zanny Minton Beddoes, Musk said that AI could do anything better than humans except be human.

He warned of losing control within a decade, correlating to his earlier forecasts like GP models nearing human-level smarts. While prominent tech leaders like Sam Altman share AGI timelines, and a broader survey points to 2047.

Skeptics noted Musk's history of overly optimistic forecasts amid recent AI advances in coding and reasoning.

On social platform X, a compelling debate was sparked with one user writing, “AI is not doing anything magical just using human intelligence that was feeded to it to make practical decisions. We all agitated that AI would take all human jobs but that has not happened because AI cannot replace humans. Elon musk as an investor in this will say anything to boost his investment.”

The second said: “That’s a bold prediction. Whether it happens in five years or not, AI progress is moving much faster than most people expected.”

Nonetheless, making plans is key to being a responsible human being. We all acknowledge that the universe has its own plan, as a matter of fact when it comes for the future.
