Who is Marc Cucurella? Spain star's iconic hair steals the spotlight at FIFA World Cup
Marc Cucurella left back recently joined Real Madrid after spending four seasons with Chelsea in the Premier League
Marc Cucurella has become one of the standout performers for Spain at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with his displays on the pitch and his distinctive hairstyle attracting attention from football fans around the world.
The 27-year-old left back recently joined Real Madrid after spending four seasons with Chelsea in the Premier League.
Born in Barcelona, Cucurella began his career in the youth systems of Espanyol and Barcelona. Although he never played for Barcelona's senior team, he featured for the club's B side before loan spells with Eibar and Getafe.
He later signed permanently for Getafe before moving to Brighton & Hove Albion, then Chelsea and, most recently, Real Madrid.
Through the Round of 16, Cucurella had made 29 senior appearances for Spain.
His curly hairstyle has become one of his defining features and has been part of his look since childhood.
Following Spain's victory at the 2024 European Championship, he briefly dyed his hair red, according to ESPN.
His hair has also made headlines during matches. In 2022, Cristian Romero pulled Cucurella's hair during a game without being punished.
Two years later, Jack Stephens of Southampton was shown a straight red card after pulling the Spain defender's hair during a Premier League match.
