FBI reaches new conclusion in Nancy Guthrie kidnapping case

Nancy Guthrie’s kidnapping case takes a shocking turn with the latest findings of the FBI.

In a recent development, the FBI found that all three ransom notes related to the abduction of Nancy, the mother of "Today" show co-host Savannah Guthrie sent to media outlets, were fake, as reported by Reuters.

According to an FBI official as reported by Reuters, “None of the ransom notes are believed to be genuine.” Another source who is privy to the matter also confirmed that the FBI assessed the veracity of the ransom messages and found no authenticity.

The dismissal of the three notes, two of which had previously received significant media coverage, casts doubt on the foundational theory that Guthrie was kidnapped for ransom.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which is supervising the investigation, declined to comment on all questions regarding the notes to the FBI.

"We don't have any updates, other than this is still an active investigation," the sheriff's spokesperson, Angelica Carrillo, said.

She added that DNA samples and video evidence collected from the crime scene "remain under forensic analysis."

The first note was about demanding a multi-million dollar ransom to be paid in cryptocurrency. And in the second note, it was mentioned that Nancy had died shortly after her kidnapping and this note did not include an apology or demand for payment.

The third note was sent to the TMZ media outlet last week. According to the email, the sender has concrete information about the “main suspect” who is responsible for the disappearance of the 84-year-old.

According to the FBI, the first two ransom notes originated from the same source, concluding that “these notes were not from anyone connected to the disappearance, partly because a test deposit of cryptocurrency remained untouched.”

The law enforcement officials also dismissed the third note as a hoax.

Since the mysterious disappearance of Nancy from her home in Arizona, Savannah Guthrie has publicly appealed for information regarding her mother’s recovery. The family is offering a $1 million reward for information leading to a breakthrough in case.
