Buckingham palace shared highlights from the centuries-old tradition via official Instagram handle of the British royal family on Monday.

The photos shared showed King Charles inspecting the Guard of Honour while dressed in a light grey suit with striped tie.

In the caption, the palace shared, "The King attends the historic Ceremony of the Keys in the Gardens of the Palace of Holyroodhouse."

It continued, "The centuries‑old tradition marks Edinburgh’s formal welcome to its Monarch. The Lord Provost presents the Keys of the City to His Majesty, who then returns them for safekeeping."

"Today, The Guard of Honour was provided by Balaklava Company, 5th Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland.

Music was provided by The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland and Pipes and Drums of the 2nd Battalion Royal Regiment of Scotland," the caption concluded.

The Ceremony of the Keys traditionally marks the beginning of the King's official engagements during Holyrood Week, also known as Royal Week in Scotland. The Palace of Holyroodhouse serves as the monarch's official residence in Scotland and hosts several ceremonial events each year.
