Nick Jonas recalls ‘terrifying’ flight experience that left the pilot crying

Nick Jonas is recalling a terrifying travel experience he once shared with pal Glen Powell that left a pilot crying.
In a clip from Nick’s, appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, titled Nick Jonas and Glen Powell’s Harrowing Flight, the Power Ballad actor, walked through the “frightening” ordeal to hosts Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos.
“We’ve had Glen Powell on the show, he’s great. I hear you two are buddies, but were bonded through a harrowing experience on a flight,” Consuelos first asked Jonas.
The Jonas Brothers singer confirmed, “We were,” before getting into the details of the scary moment, which he noted happened almost a decade ago.
“So, this is almost 10 years ago, probably. We were in Vegas together with a group of friends, and on the way home, the plane basically took off and then — I don’t know the technical term for it — but there was an issue with the power. Which is never a good thing, obviously,” he explained.
“And this is pre-Top Gun: Maverick Glen Powell, so he was in flight training, but he couldn’t have landed the plane like he can now,” Jonas joked, before adding of his friend, “He was just regular old Glen Powell. So, you know, had this happened a couple weeks ago, different story.”
The Jealous singer concluded his story by admitting, “Yeah, it was a frightening experience, but we were okay.”
This prompted the hosts to ask Nick how the flight crew reacted to the technical issue, as Consuelos questioned, “Did the pilots look concerned?”
With a nervous laugh, he replied, “One of them was crying when we landed,” to which Consuelos responded, “That’s when you know.”
Nick Jonas added that seeing the pilot’s reaction certainly put into perspective just how “bad” the incident actually was. “I was thinking, ‘Okay, maybe it wasn’t as bad as I sort of felt like it was.’ And then I saw him crying. I was like, ‘Oh no, this was bad,’” he recalled.
His latest movie, Power Ballad, also starring Paul Rudd, is now in theaters. The singer is also gearing up for the release of Jumanji: Open World, which premieres on December 25.
