King Charles celebrates historic military milestone

King Charles marked a historic chapter in British military history as he attended the Formation Parade of The King's Gurkha Artillery at Larkhill.

Celebrating the creation of the British Army's first dedicated Gurkha Artillery regiment, the monarch addressed soldiers at the event.

The King expressed his pride in witnessing the formation of the new regiment in his role as Captain General of the Royal Regiment of Artillery.

On Instagram, the official handle of the British royal family posted photos from the event. In the caption, the palace quoted Charles' words, "As Captain General of the Royal Regiment of Artillery, it gives me the greatest pride on this most significant day to witness the formation of your new regiment — The King’s Gurkha Artillery. Ajur din ramro cha! [Today is a good day!]."

The caption went on to add, "Today, The King visited the King’s Gurkha Artillery at Larkhill for their Formation Parade — a landmark moment marking the creation of the British Army’s first dedicated Gurkha Artillery unit."

"Formally established in April 2025, the regiment draws on a long and proud tradition of Gurkha service to the United Kingdom, and is set to grow to more than 500 personnel by 2029," it revealed further.

Before concluding, "A new cap badge — the first in 14 years — was created to mark the occasion and reflect the expanded role of the Brigade of Gurkhas in modern warfare."

The photos shared on social media showed King Charles in full ceremonial military uniform adorned with gold braiding, medals, and regimental insignia as he speaks with the soldiers. During the inspection, the King also raises a formal salute while standing before a line of Gurkha soldiers and officers.
