John Travolta shares emotional message as his first directed movie stays No. 1 worldwide
John Travolta celebrates seventh day at top of Apple TV rankings
John Travolta is celebrating a major career milestone after his first film as a director became the number one movie on Apple TV+ worldwide.
The 72-year-old actor shared the news in a video posted on Instagram on June 3. Speaking directly to fans, Travolta thanked viewers for supporting his film, Propeller One-Way Night Coach, which has now spent seven days at the top of the streaming charts.
Holding a model airplane from the movie, Travolta said, “I’m very excited to say this is day seven of being No. 1 on Apple TV all around the world.”
He added, “I want to thank each and every one of you in all the countries around the world for being so supportive. It’s really because of you that it’s number one.”
The film is especially personal for Travolta because it is partly based on his own childhood memories. The story follows an eight-year-old boy named Jeff discovering the world of flying in America during the 1960s. Travolta also appears in the film as an older version of the character.
The movie was inspired by Travolta’s 1997 children’s book of the same name. It also stars his daughter, Ella Bleu Travolta, who plays a flight attendant.
Travolta premiered the movie at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival in May, where he attended the event with Ella Bleu.
Earlier this month, the actor revealed that the film carries deep emotional meaning for him. In an interview with Italian newspaper La Repubblica, Travolta said the project is dedicated to his late wife Kelly Preston, who died in 2020, and his son Jett Travolta, who passed away in 2009 at the age of 16.
