Is Tom Holland really ready to quit 'Spider-Man' as he turned 30?
Tom Holland made a surprising turn about his 'Spider-Man' retirement plans
Tom Holland is looking at his future with Spider-Man franchise differently after previously saying he did not want to play the superhero in his 30s.
The British actor, who turned 30 on June 1, recently sat down with GQ and reflected on the comment he made in 2021.
Admitting that his perspective has changed since, Tom said, “It’s funny, I saw that quote pop up somewhere recently and I kind of reeled, because I was trying to remember what I meant."
Holland said he does have the acknowledgement that one day he has to eventually hand the role over to someone else, but right now he is just not ready to do that.
“I think the point of it is that I would love to pass the baton on, and I haven’t achieved that yet,” said Holland, who has played Peter Parker since he was 18 years old.
“It’s definitely something that we talk about a lot at the studio. So maybe I need to change the quote to 37.”
Holland also joked that his old comment may have been part of a strategy during his contract negotiations with the franchise.
“So I don’t know what it could have been,” he noted. “It could’ve been part of a strategy to create fear.”
Despite his earlier remarks, Holland made it clear that he still loves playing Spider-Man.
“I think the truth is that playing Spider-Man has been the joy of my life,” he emphasized. “I now kind of stand on the plinth of like, I’ll do it for as long as they’ll have me.”
