Idris Elba gets honour of lifetime as King Charles knights him
Idris Elba also shares his reaction on social media over knighthood honour
Idris Elba is officially a knight, joining the ranks of Britain's estimated figures.
He was knighted by King Charles during a ceremony at Windsor Castle on June 2.
The Luther star was given this honour in recognition of his efforts in supporting young people.
In a post shared on social media, Elba had been given a tap on the shoulder by the King's sword as the actor knelt before him.
The post's caption read, "Congratulations to everyone who received honours at today’s Investiture ceremonies, hosted by The King at Windsor Castle."
The British actor also took the moment to react to the photos of him receiving the honour on social media.
"We are thankful. The work continues," he wrote as photos show him with his wife, Sabrina Elba, at the castle.
Elba's honour comes after years of his advocacy and work in the Elba Hope Foundation.
Idris Elba's close ties with King Charles
Elba has close ties with Charles. He began his career at just 18 after The King's Trust - a charity founded by the monarch - helped him get started.
Earlier, when the actor was announced to receive the knighthood honour, he was lost for words.
"I haven't really spoken about it, but I will say that it's a real honor to be recognized for the work," he told People at the time.
"Especially trying to make as much noise for young people and the things that some of them are going through. So it feels like an honor."
"My family is honored by it. I don't even know how to talk about it," Elba concluded.
