Police criticised for informing King Charles about investigation into sleeping guards
King Charles has been informed that an investigation has been launched against guards who have been sleeping on duty
King Charles has been informed that Scotland Yard has launched an urgent investigation into claims that officers tasked with protecting members of the royal family have been falling asleep on duty.
According to The Telegraph, Up to 30 officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Royalty and Specialist Protection unit are being investigated amid allegations of widespread misconduct.
"As well as being accused of falling asleep while on guard or leaving their posts without permission, some are being investigated over claims they clocked on for duty but then failed to attend their post," said the report in The Telegraph.
It said most of the claims relate to officers based at Windsor Castle.
Reacting to the report, anti-monarchy group, Republic made a sarcastic statement, mocking police over an urgent investigation into the matter pertaining to the royal family's security but showing what it perceived as a lackluster interest in investigating Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.
"So the Met launched an 'urgent investigation' into this immediately but it took years of public pressure for them to do anything about Andrew. Strange, isn't it," said Republic in a reference to the king's younger brother's links to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Laster year, King Charles stripped Andrew of royal titles and expelled him from Royal Lodge in Windsor over his links to Epstein.
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested by police earlier this year on suspicion of misconduct in public office. Although the former Duke of York was released the same day, he still remains under investigation.
