Bill Cassidy breaks silence on losing Republican primary
Bill Cassidy shares the statement on social media after Louisiana primary loss
Sen. Bill Cassidy has lost his primary in Louisiana, a shock to his voters.
But now he has thanked them for their support.
In sombre remarks on social media, the GOP politician says, "This will be the last portion of my campaign for a while."
Despite facing a stunning defeat on Saturday night, Cassidy shares, “Those of you who worked on the campaign and volunteered on the campaign. I thank you. I’m indebted."
As his support base is reeling from a crushing defeat, he promised them he will "continue to work with you for the betterment of our country, for our state."
Cassidy's loss has been celebrated by Trump – the GOP lawmaker voted to convict the president for the Capitol riot on Jan. 6.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump wrote, "Hopefully all of the Great Republican People of Louisiana, which I won BIG three times, will be voting Bill Cassidy OUT OF OFFICE in the upcoming Republican Primary! President DONALD J. TRUMP."
