China urges Pakistan to increase Iran-US mediation efforts
The Chinese foreign minister also expressed hope that Pakistan would continue working to restore peace and stability in the region
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi has urged Pakistan to increase efforts to mediate between Iran and the United States as tensions continue over the conflict and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz.
According to China’s state-run Xinhua News Agency, Wang made the remarks during a phone call with Pakistani Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
Dar reportedly briefed Wang on Pakistan’s recent diplomatic efforts involving Tehran and Washington and thanked Beijing for its continued support.
Xinhua said Wang praised Pakistan for helping facilitate negotiations and contributing to the extension of the temporary ceasefire between Iran and the United States.
The Chinese foreign minister also expressed hope that Pakistan would continue working to restore peace and stability in the region, particularly through efforts to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.
According to the report, Wang said China would continue supporting Islamabad’s mediation efforts while also contributing its own diplomatic initiatives.
The discussions come amid growing international concern over disruptions to shipping routes and energy supplies linked to the ongoing tensions in the Gulf region.
