Iran calls China part of its ‘political balancing’ strategy during ongoing war tensions
Fazli said China played an important role in Iran’s wider diplomatic strategy during and after the recent conflict
Iranian official Rahmani Fazli has described China as a crucial strategic partner for Tehran as tensions continue with the United States and Israel.
Speaking to Iranian state news agency IRNA, Fazli said Beijing played an important role in Iran’s wider diplomatic strategy during and after the recent conflict.
“China for Iran is not merely an economic partner or energy buyer; it is part of political balancing against pressure, threats, and unilateralism,” Fazli said.
The comments followed a recent visit to China by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and came ahead of US President Donald Trump’s planned trip to Beijing.
According to Fazli, Iran is seeking to reshape its diplomatic position after the conflict rather than relying only on military responses.
“Iran, in managing the post-war phase, is not merely relying on temporary reactions, but is seeking to redefine its diplomatic alignment through engagement with strategic partners,” he told IRNA.
Fazli also said China viewed the crisis through the lens of maintaining regional stability rather than increasing pressure on Iran.
The remarks came as the US Treasury Department announced sanctions against 12 individuals and entities accused of helping facilitate Iranian oil shipments to China.
